My Interview

Me and my work

I’m Verity Mann and I am the Deputy Head of Testing at the Good Housekeeping Institute, based in London’s bustling Soho. I am predominantly responsible for testing large, domestic appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers.

My Typical Day

My typical day consists of catching up on emails, making contact with PRs to arrange samples for testing, brainstorming ideas of what we can next test, testing whatever it is I’m currently testing, subbing and writing copy for both online and editorial work.

What's the best work related thing you've done?

Through work, I’ve had the chance to do some travelling for press trips and travel articles. This often involves attending exhibitions where manufacturers can showcase their upcoming new products.

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?

Caring, inquisitive and positive

What is the most fun thing you've done?

Doing a Flight of the Angel when in Basilicata, Italy. It’s a zip line that goes from one mountain-top to another at speeds of about 70mph. There were some breath-taking views up there and it was surprisingly very quiet and serene up there.

Who or what inspired you to do the work you're doing now?

Whilst at the University of Birmingham I studied a product testing module which really gave me a taste for it. It was through this that I did a 4-week placement at the Good Housekeeping Institute and furthered my interest and awareness of this type of work.
